A two-tone stoneware collection to celebrate diversity

Elephantom.Design presents you a socially engaged collection

With its two-tone stoneware ceramics, Elephantom Design invites you to accept others and their differences, to discover their mysteries, to see people as they are and to be tolerant.

The clays used to create this collection have two different shades : one brown, the other off-white. Two ceramics that combine with each other on the potter's wheel to create a collection of meaningful pottery. They tolerate each other so well that they survive together even as the kiln pushes them to their limits. These clays are Belgian, the off-white clay was extracted in West Flanders while the brown one comes from Wallonia. Isn't it wonderful?

Why celebrate diversity in a collection of handcrafted ceramics?

Because ceramics are made with our earth that comes from our Earth. A soil as varied as its biological diversity. Soil exists in all colors, each with its own characteristics and geological history. Each reacts in its own way to shaping, drying and firing. However, most of them can be combined to create new items as long as their use is well thought out in advance. The potter assembles them after taking the time to understand their similarities and differences. He works on them by choosing techniques and firing methods that they can both withstand. This requires a deep interest in their characteristics in order to understand how to make them move forward together towards the same outcome: the created object. A bit like for us, as human beings : just as the earth must be worked on in a thoughtful way to built on solid foundations, diversity requires an openness to the other, to understand each other and to be more tolerant. We need to open our minds, understand that we can discover ourselves, learn from each other's history, learn to accept our differences in order to move forward hand in hand and create new things together, that we would not have created if we had not taken the time to discover ourselves.
